Agenda Title:
Authorize Mayor and Finance Officer to sign revised Wildland Urban Interface Community Assistance Grant application.
Summary:
This grant application is an extension of the original agreement and is providing additional funding for the Veteran Wildfire Fuels Mitigation program operating under the Survivable Space Initiative.  This program has gained national attention for its efforts to provide jobs for veterans transitioning from active duty, while making Rapid City safer through wildfire mitigation efforts on large tracts of land adjacent to city neighborhoods.
Funding Source & Fiscal Impact (if applicable):
The funding source is through the Bureau of Land Management’s Wildland Fire Community Assistance grant program. Total property value impacted (potential loss of homes and lots) if there was a fire in the area of mitigation efforts is approximately $30,000,000.
