|
In Chapter 3.20 of the Rapid City Municipal Code, the City adopted provisions in the 1980s allowing for payment of debts of rural fire protection districts that was attributable to properties, when those properties were annexed into the City. State law says that the properties remain liable for the indebtedness even if they leave the district, but that cities can elect to pay their share to the fire district if they wish. Ordinance No. 6066 updates the outdated provisions in Chapter 3.20 and allows for the City to decide if it wants to pay some or all of the fire district debts in the context of an annexation. It also requires fire districts who would like such payment to provide annual notice of their indebtedness to the City. |
