Agenda Title:
Acknowledge 20 year commemoration of Sister City, Apolda, Germany.
Summary:
Agreements were signed in 1994 establishing Sister City designations between Rapid City and Apolda, Germany and Imaichi, Japan.  In 2006, Imaichi combined with four other cities to form Nikko City and Rapid City was selected as Nikko City’s sister city.  The purpose of a City Sister partnership is to further friendship and to contribute to both cities’ growth and development through the exchange of education, culture, industry and economy.  Council President, Jerry Wright visited Apolda Sept. 26-Oct. 4.  He stayed with a host family, toured a number of local cottage industries and met with numerous local and state officials.  He also attended an onion festival, which Wright termed to be much like the Central States Fair, and an Oktoberfest.
