Summary: |

|
The State of South Dakota recently adopted the 2014 edition of the National Electrical Code, and the City wishes to update its own ordinances to adopt the 2014 edition and to retain those provisions that impose more stringent local requirements upon electricians operating within the city. On July 23, Building Services held a meeting where staff could discuss the proposed changes with licensed electricians. All licensed electricians received notice of the meeting, and fourteen electricians were in attendance to discuss the changes. No one at the meeting objected to the proposed changes to the local ordinance. |

Action: Approve Notes: No permit fee changes were proposed or adopted by the State. No permit fee changes are proposed with this ordinance amendment. |

If the proposed amendment is denied, all electrical work performed within Rapid City will be subject to the 2014 NEC and Administrative Rules promulgated by the State Legislature and South Dakota Electrical Commission, without any local amendments. |
