Accept funds from a FEMA grant

Summary:

The Rapid City Fire Department was awarded $21,285 from a FEMA grant to sprinkler protect 50 of the State’s Governor’s homes being built through the South Dakota Housing Authority.  $20,000 will go toward sprinkler system installation and $1,285 will go toward travel fees to provide public education and awareness of the importance of having sprinkler systems in residences.  The $20,000 is for materials and contracted labor to install the sprinkler systems. 

Funding Source & Fiscal Impact (if applicable):

FEMA awarded Rapid City Fire Department $21,285 to complete this project.  There are three home designs and Residential Designs has agreed to donate three engineered sprinkler designs at a value of $500 each for a total in-kind donation of $1,500.  The Fire Department committed to $1,013 in-kind services.  This will be made up from labor costs to tow the sprinkler demonstration trailer to the state legislature and 3 fairs where the Governor’s Homes are on display to provide public education.

Notes: This grant has already been awarded to the Rapid City Fire Department.  We have 12 months within a 24 month period to complete the project.
