|
There are currently three single family homes along Calle Baja Street with gravity sanitary sewer service that drains to a single private lift station. From the lift station the sewage is pumped approximately 1200’ to the City’s sanitary sewer system. The three homes were originally constructed between 1967 - 1973 and no information on the existing sewer system can be found. The system is at the end of its useful life and the property owners intend to construct a new pressurized sewer system with individual lift stations on each property which pump into a single force main. Based on topography, a gravity sanitary sewer system is not possible. A request, as required by the Rapid City Infrastructure Design Criteria Manual Section 3.14.1.1, has been submitted to allow for a public pressurized sewer system in which the force main would be a public improvement, owned and maintained by the City, while the individual pump stations would be private, owned and maintained by the property owners. Calle Baja Street is a private street and the force main is proposed within a utility easement that would be granted to the City, within the private street. |

Recommendation: |

Action: Approve the request for a public force main in Calle Baja Street. Notes: Maintenance components as requested by the Utility Maintenance Department shall be provided and the system shall be constructed per the criteria outlined in the Rapid City Infrastructure Design Criteria Manual Section 3.14.1. |
